6 Beautiful Bitcoin Children's Books Your Family Will Love

6 Beautiful Bitcoin Children's Books Your Family Will Love

Some kids go to bed with the help of a nice glass of warm milk before counting sheep; others take their orange pill and drift off into dreams of (Bitcoin) going to the moon.

And what better practice to work into a child's bedtime routine than Bitcoin stories. They're:

  • Fun
  • Hopeful
  • Educational
  • A nice way for the adults to wind down from the day's Twitter antics

On that note, the age range for the Bitcoin books for children that I chose is wide! Something like Goodnight Bitcoin can be great for a three-year-old while Bitcoin Money: A Tale of Bitville Discovering Good Money might be better suited for someone who's six or older.

It all depends on where they're at. And honestly, children are just happy when we're with them, present, reading stories.

All right, here we go.

1. Goodnight Bitcoin

by Scott and Mallory Sibley

Holding a copy of the children's book Goodnight Bitcoin presented by SHAmory.

I'm not sure if it was on purpose, but this SHAmory title reminds me of the popular American children's book Goodnight Moon.

Goodnight Bitcoin is a board book filled with vibrant pages and cute monsters. Together they help tell a kid-friendly version of how Bitcoin came to be. In the last few pages of this rhyming book, you and your kids will say goodnight to blocks, miners, sats, nodes, Satoshi, and – of course – Bitcoin.

Your kids will love following the story of Satoshi and Hal as they attempt to create the impossible, a new money called Bitcoin! These smart little monsters will come together to change the world, one Bitcoin block at a time. Will they reach their goal and take Bitcoin to the moon? Only time will tell. So cuddle up as a family and start reading together!

2. Rhyming Bitcoin

by Jason Don, Florencia Montoya, and Simon Nash

Holding a copy of the children's book Rhyming Bitcoin.

Rhyming Bitcoin is beautiful. The first time I opened it up, I didn't even read it. I just flipped through the pages and admired Florencia's art style.

If I had to choose three words to describe this book, they'd be: Seussical, simple, and successful at explaining complex concepts about money, economics, and why Bitcoin gives us hope:

"The great promise of Bitcoin is money that's sound,
Permissionless value, a true common ground,
A world in which people, no matter how small,
Can interact as sovereigns... Once and for all."

Bitcoin is hope, freedom, and inspiration for millions around the world, and "Rhyming Bitcoin" is meant to gently ease newcomers down the rabbit hole in a fun way reminiscent of Dr. Seuss and Alice in Wonderland. "Rhyming Bitcoin" doesn't tackle the how of Bitcoin, but rather the why.

3. If You Give a Monster a Bitcoin

by Scott and Mallory Sibley

Holding a copy of the children's book If You Give a Monster a Bitcoin presented by SHAmory.

Scott and Mallory's title choices must be inspired by other popular children's books. If you're familiar with the "If You Give..." series, you'll know what I mean.

This one is a ton of fun! You get to meet all the SHAmory monsters and see what happens when you give them all a Bitcoin. (A whole Bitcoin – wouldn't that be nice!)

With every fun and engaging page, kids learn a little bit more how Bitcoin works and helps improve how the world currently works.

My favourite couplet is: "They might wonder how many Bitcoin there will be, and you'll tell them twenty-one million. When they ask the same about Fiat money, you'll have to say, 'Over a zillion!'"

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you gave the SHAmory monsters a bitcoin? Well, you’re in luck! Read along with your family and friends to learn how this simple act can send our little monsters down the Bitcoin rabbit hole and make the world a better place.

4. Bitcoin Money: A Tale of Bitville Discovering Good Money

by Michael Caras and Marina Yakubivska

Holding a copy of the children's book Bitcoin Money: A Tale of Bitville Discovering Good Money.

This picture book simply explains the origins of money, how it led to the invention of Bitcoin, and how this new sound money is much more reliable than the fiat currencies most people use today!

For author Michael Caras, "the key value of Bitcoin is its economic role, and so we focus on that aspect, as opposed to a detailed explanation of the technology behind it."

By pairing his story about good money with simple and relatable illustrations, you and your kids will walk away with an understanding of Bitcoin that will last a lifetime.

The kids in Bitville realize they need a tool to help them trade with each other. As they explore using different types of money, a strange boy moves to town and suggests a new idea... Bitcoin Money is a story for all ages which helps answer the question “Why Bitcoin?”

5. The Little Hodler: 100 Comics About Better Money

by Lina Seiche

Holding a copy of the book The Little Hodler: 100 Comics About Better Money.

The collection of comics in this graphic novel is amazing. Lina took 100 comics, organized them into a greater narrative, and broke the story down into six parts!

  1. The Little Hodler
  2. The Little Precoiner
  3. The Little Nocoiner
  4. The Little Regulator
  5. The Little Bitcoin
  6. Little Hodlove

The book summary below does a great job of sharing more about what you can expect. All I'll say is, I can't wait for the next 100 comics!

Money is complicated. But it shouldn’t be! In 100 little comics, The Little HODLer tells stories of the past, present, and future of money – in pictures instead of complex diagrams, and with a friendly face rather than big words. The Little HODLer is on a journey to find the best form of money – one he can use freely at any time (even on weekends!), one that nobody can take away from him, and one that can’t be printed in trillions. And you bet once he finds it, he’s going to HODL it really tight!

6. Bitcoin for Kiddos

by Chris and Frieda Bobay

Picture of the Bitcoin for Kiddos book front cover.

Before I jump into this one, I need to make it known that I'm beyond bullish on Bitcoin families. This book is another couple-created adventure down the rabbit hole, covering Bitcoin's history.

In addition to the story, the illustrations include comic-like speech bubbles which add layers of both fun and depth to the story.

One of my favourite parts of this book actually comes at the end, where Chris and Frieda include a helpful glossary of terms with kid-friendly definitions. Perfect to keep the conversation going with your kids even after you finish reading!

Journey down the rabbit hold to discover why Bitcoin was invented. This story is guaranteed to spark the imagination of children and adults alike. Learn the basic concepts of the differences between money and currency and gain a better understanding of the importance of Bitcoin.

Happy reading!

I hope you enjoyed this little curated list of Bitcoin books for kids. Even more, I hope you enjoy them with your family as much as I continue to enjoy them with mine.

Have you come across any other picture books about Bitcoin that I didn't mention? Let me know! I'd love to check them out and potentially add them to the list.

p.s. I have some Bitcoin children's book drafts of my own! If you're an illustrator or know someone who is that would be interested in collaborating, reach out on Twitter (X) or shoot me an email. I want to bring them to life.
